At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 the Germans signed the Armistice that ended World War 1. Twenty years later the US government officially declared November 11th Armistice Day, a holiday to remember the day WWI ended. It wasn't until 1954 that congress amended the act, transforming Armistice Day into a holiday to honor and remember all veterans.
